When deciding to try living in Mexico, you really don’t know what to expect. You may feel quite unprepared. Mexico and Mexicans are very different than what you expect because living there takes on a whole new meaning to them and they welcome you to their country with open arms. But just why does living in Mexico work for Americans?
While it is a terrible idea to move to a place just for lower costs, if everything else works out, having a lower cost of living sure is nice. For about the same lifestyle, the cost to live in Mexico is easily 60% less than in the United States. The reality of this doesn’t really hit you until you live it. For many, it is definitely a cost/quality improvement at the same time.
It is extremely expensive for healthcare in the United States and not all that good in quality these days. In Mexico for expats, the difference is like night and day. A health premium in the US may set you back upwards of $1,200 a month but in Mexico, it is roughly around $200 and the coverage is often better. The cost for an out of pocket visit to a physician in Mexico is about $30 and often the physicians spend an hour or more with you, unlike the US.
Two of the most common reasons startup businesses fail are lack of money and lack of time to execute the plan. Both of these reasons are lessened in Mexico because your personal cost of living is so low that you can afford to invest more time and money into a business. Also, the cost of labor is so much lower in Mexico. With more time to execute, few demands to get to profitability and lower costs for everything from legal and accounting to hiring employees, your chances of success increase tremendously.
In Spanish, the word for “worried” is “preocupado” which in English bears a strong resemblance to “preoccupied.” This makes sense because the more we are preoccupied with problems, the less happy we are and the less we can live in and enjoy the present.
With a lower cost of living for a better lifestyle and reduced concerns about the cost for quality healthcare, you are reducing cause for concern about many things that would otherwise preoccupy you. You can live in near perfect weather almost all year round and be optimistic about the future at the same time. We think it’s a win-win situation for you if you have even considered moving to Mexico.
